About Me

My name is Amr Almaz and if you are reading this then I had just finished my freshman year of college classes at The City College of New York. By now you can probably tell that this is my writing portfolio and I’m writing it as part of an final assignment for my Russian Literature English Composition class which already sounds complicated but it isn’t. Basically City College decided that basic english classes were too bland and that they had to come up with a new idea. Thus you get FIQWS or Freshman Inquires …I can’t remember the rest, regardless of the name this course is two classes combined to make up one subject with each targeting a different aspect of writing. The 2 types of classes are a regular writing class and a topic class which in this case I ended up selecting Love and Society in 19th Century Russian Literature. Now, I want to clearly emphasize that this was not my first choice and to be completely honest, I did not want this course as I felt that it was irrelevant to me. To some extent this idea did change throughout the semester as the classes sort of ‘grew on me’. My feeling now is that it’s not so much irrelevant to me as it is to my career learning. I’m doing computer engineering at city college or at least I will in two more semesters* and I don’t feel that learning about love in russian literature is going to be really beneficial or even in-line with what I plan on doing. Anyways, I (almost) made it through this whole semester, so far I really did enjoy college (for the most part haha). All that is left is finish my finals, this portfolio being one of them, and I hope you take the time to at least skim through my work as I put a lot of effort into all this. Thank you if you have read this far or any other part of my portfolio and I’ll see ya when I see ya. Thank you and ENJOY LIFE!

* long story short, my high school counselors advised me to apply with Liberal arts as my major to increase my chances of getting in and then switch when I get here; after getting here they said I couldn’t just ‘switch like that’ and there would be required courses need in order to get into the Grove school of engineering (a sort of sector here at ccny) and they will take up my first 3 semesters of college. But regardless, all is well!
